The exhibition consists of black-and-white photographs, which were inspired by the raw qualities of charcoal drawings of nudes. Eschewing the studio, Ms. Kuhn uses only natural light, and she photographs her models in outdoor settings where nudity is accepted. (All of the images in this exhibition were photographed in France, Germany, and California.)
Ms. Kuhn's models span the spectrum of social standing—a fact difficult to determine in the absence of clothing, jewelry, and other indicia of status—and the artist has photographed every model in this exhibition many times over the years. Each photograph is thus the product of a lasting relationship, and is more a collaboration with, than a detached depiction of, the model. All of the photographs in the exhibition are 15" × 15" gelatin silver prints.
