Photographer Fernando Moleres

Despite there being a law against the persecution of children, Fernando’s photographs are a record of the hundreds of African children who are regularly placed in the same jails as adults. His work exposes the intolerable conditions in which these boys, the majority of them poor and orphaned, are forced to live, and asks important questions about the impact of unlawful detention on their self-esteem and future development.

Fernando hopes through his photographs to encourage the Government to review the law and ensure that these children are protected. He hopes to remove the stigma around these children, and galvanise support for the creation of a network to ensure they are properly cared for and have their rights protected.
