Percy Dean was born on the banks of the River Mersey in North West England. At the age of 17 he was taught photography in a small local college by notable ‘street photographer’ Tom Wood. During this time he started making pictures around his love of skateboarding and also began contributing to the national and international specialist sports magazines of the time. In 1994 he was appointed staff photojournalist for Snowboard UK Magazine. In 1997 he founded Document Magazine ‘an internationally renowned skateboard/lifestyle magazine’ where he held the position of editor/senior photographer for over a decade, travelling the world and shooting skateboard/street culture. In 2008 he evolved to a freelance photographer and completed an MA in Photojournalism/Documentary photography. In 2009 he was commissioned to shoot the ‘1966 Photo-book’ for Vans Footwear, which culminated in a solo exhibition in Munich. In 2010 a photographic book on his work with an Orthodox Jewish community in Manchester was published entitled ‘Clouds Of Glory’ this was then exhibited at the 2010 Brighton Photo-fringe Festival.
