Photographer Jeff Sheng

Another ongoing project of Sheng’s is Revolutions of Memory, which examine in panoramic compilations of images important sites historically to communities certain communities in his own life. His work includes a chilling view of the site of a hate crime in “Where Matthew Lay Dying (Laremie, Wyoming), 2007″; “Hangzhou, China: Where My Grandfather’s Memory of his Childhood” where Sheng returned to a site often commemorated by his elder to create the first image of this series; and “Stonewall, NYC: A Gay Pride March, Hilary Clinton, and the NYPD (Come Out!), 1970/2005″ which is meant to juxtapose the historical occurrences for the New York LGBTQ community and the shift from gay-bashing police raids to the more open climate where one’s sexuality is a symbol of pride and not fear of oppression. The ongoing series literally immerses the viewer in the scene that Sheng compiles of from hundreds of photographs to create a vivid, strong, and meaningful artistic experience.
