Photographer Joël Tettamanti

We, as do many, have an interest in visiting Greenland. What a compelling place it seems to be, with such a massive land with little to no people. Swiss photographer Joël Tettamanti did a photo series on Greenland's most populated southern city, Qaqortoq, home of 3,230 residents. Tettamanti captures both isolation and beauty in every shot, as if the down was deserted and loss in time. What at times feels sad becomes pristine after each viewing.
Joël Tettamanti is a Swiss photographer who seems to trawl the world in search of far away and remote lands. Tettamanti is part explorer and part observer and his portfolio gives a brief glimpse into the extraordinary landscapes that exist in our world. As a photographer his images are restrained and yet provocative; almost allowing the landscape to define itself. This is perhaps most apparent in his series of photographs of Greenland and in the shots he has taken of places such as Nuuk, Ilulissa and Aasiaat.
In these photographs the stoic landscape is richly speckled with the architecture of a people who thrive for bright colors and amid the harsh surroundings of the Greenlandic weather, their desire for color amplified by the very thing they work to fight against.
